Professor von Keyserlingk, from the University of British Columbia, is renowned for her work in advancing the understanding of animal welfare, particularly in cattle. Her visit to Belgium was part of her recognition with an honorary doctorate at the
University of Ghent’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
During her visit, Professor von Keyserlingk collaborated with ILVO’s team, delving into the latest research on Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) and the role of generative AI in shaping the perception of livestock farming. Led by aWISH scientific coordinator Frank Tuyttens, ILVO showcased the innovative work being done through the aWISH project. The team presented valuable insights on how technology is being integrated into farming practices to promote animal welfare and improve sustainability.
One of the key highlights was a presentation by ILVO researcher Kenny Van Langeveld, who shared the latest findings from ILVO’s PLF research, demonstrating the potential of advanced technologies to monitor livestock health and behavior.
Professor von Keyserlingk was highly impressed by the cutting-edge work being done at ILVO, praising the research’s potential to shape the future of ethical and sustainable farming.
This visit further strengthens the collaboration between ILVO and leading experts in animal welfare, reinforcing the importance of innovation in advancing sustainable agricultural practices. The aWISH project continues to lead the way in integrating new technologies that improve the welfare of animals while ensuring more efficient and ethical farming practices for the future.
Stay tuned for more updates on the aWISH project!
